In the summer of 1961 an aircraft from Fairey Surveys Ltd flew over West Adderbury. The two images below capture a moment in the history of our village.
Fairey Air Surveys Ltd was founded in 1923 as the Air Survey Company, working in Burma. Later, the company provided aerial survey, remote sensing, land survey and map production services to countries around the world. At their research labs at White Waltham in Berkshire Fairey developed anti-vibration isolators used in camera mountings for mapping and geophysical survey work.
The company carried out aerial surveys for local authorities within the UK , including Oxfordshire in 1961.
